Family Dental Care at Every Age

Dental needs change throughout life. A good family dentist handles all of them.

Children (Ages 1–12)

The American Dental Association recommends a child's first dental visit by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Early visits build comfort with the dental chair and let the dentist spot developmental concerns before they become bigger problems.

At Sharon Springs Dental, we see young patients for:

• First dental exams and cleanings
• Fluoride treatments to strengthen developing enamel
• Dental sealants to protect back molars from decay
• X-rays to monitor spacing and incoming permanent teeth
• Parent education on brushing, diet, and thumb habits

We work at a child's pace. If a young patient needs more time or wants to sit in the chair without doing anything the first visit, that is fine. Building a good experience early matters more than rushing through a cleaning.

Teens (Ages 13–17)

Teens often need orthodontic assessment, cavity monitoring (sugar exposure tends to peak in adolescence), and sports mouthguards. We also see teens for wisdom tooth monitoring — early imaging lets Dr. Friedman track third molars before they become an emergency extraction. Adults

Routine preventive care every six months is the foundation. Adults who keep up with cleanings and exams avoid the more expensive and time-consuming treatments that follow from neglected oral health. We also address:

• Worn or cracked teeth from grinding (bruxism)
• Restorative work: fillings, crowns, bridges
• TMJ evaluation for patients with jaw pain or headaches

Seniors

Oral health changes as we age. Dry mouth, gum recession, and increased risk of root decay are common in older patients. Dr. Friedman takes a conservative approach — restore what is damaged, protect what remains, and avoid recommending procedures that do not improve the patient's actual quality of life.
